We replaced the two old Optimum systems with new, more powerful thermal oxidizers that allow us to incinerate at lower temperatures. This means that, at rated operation, the incinerator generates a minimum of steam while the cogeneration plant produces the lion’s share. The system runs on natural gas and on the biogas the water purification plant produces.
As the thermal oxidizers also acts as backup, production can be kept ticking over because it has been designed to kick in as soon as the combined heat and power system fails.
